What Constitutes a Grinder Saw

One of the most important parts of an Angle grinder is grinder saw or the disc which helps in removing excess material or simply cut in to pieces. The various kinds of discs which help in achieving this are abrasive grinding discs, cut-off discs (diamond blade), grinding stones, wire brush wheels, sanding discs and polishing pads.

The strength of the grinder saw and the motor determines the choice of right grinder for specific use. Different functions with precision could be achieved by choosing grinding discs which have appropriate backing, coat, and abrasive material.

An open coat with durable fiber backing saw is preferred for paint removal and fiberglass grinding. Closed coat saw, made of aluminum oxide and fiber-backed, are used for fiberglass, wood, and metal sanding. Fiber Discs that are alumina zirconium mineral-based offer sharp, strong, versatile, supreme debarring, weld grinding and blending, and metal removal.

Disc size increases with the corresponding increase in the power. Disc sizes could be one of the following; 4, 4.5, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 12 inches.

Grinder parts are carefully designed so that instrument functions best. The circular grinder saw must be positioned properly so that they do operate well even when the saw rotates at its maximum speed. Due to centrifugal force, the circular motion may be disturbed and not rotate in circular motion with the same centre point. For a saw to be run at higher speed will have to have more tension than one operated at slower speed. Hence during the design of the saw itself, the end user and the grinder to which it is going to be hammered is kept in mind.

As every machinery parts, the size of saw also reduces when they are used repeatedly. To avoid this, grinder parts include inserted tooth blades. An added advantage is that they allow easy repair as they eliminate the need to regrind the gullets and swage the teeth.

Sharpening of these saw provides re usability and precise output. It is done manually like filing by hand or using some specific gadgets. The way they are sharpened depends on the amount of sharpness and material they are used with. Cutting is done by the teeth on the edge of the thin blade.

The grinder saw shows some marvelous characteristics such as straight and accurate cuts. Though there could be some blurs left on the cutting surface by the saw, mostly they have a good surface finish.
