How to Replace Grinder Parts
There are 25 to 30 grinder parts that make an angle die grinder. Few of the most common parts are: O ring, retaining ring, spiral bevel gear, ball bearing, spindle, wheel cover, pan head screw, tapping screw, inner flange, lock nut, woodruff key, grip holder, cord guard, strain relief, standing lock nut, rubber pad, compression spring, baffle plate, fan, insulating washer. It is surprising that most of these grinder parts are independent and can be re used.
These individual parts match most of the different models of the same brand there by the manufacturers can switch between versions and make their buyers quite addictive to their products.
This makes the users also to benefit if they are a little smart. Once your unit fails, do not throw them away completely. You can remove the case and preserve the spare parts which are in good condition so that they can be re used when you find some minor repairs with another apparatus.
When you want to debug an angle die grinder that has failed amidst working, it may contain lot of dust inside because of some particles you have worked with or because of wear and tear. You can try your luck in repairing them.
For safety issues, remove the power cord. Keep your face not too close to the device. Make sure you cover your eyes with goggles and your nose so that you don't inhale the dust.
There could be some minor problem with the grinder parts mostly the brushes. There will be screws that are holding your angle die grinder case. Kindly unscrew and remove the housing. Identify the brush holders. They are usually square shaped, made of brass. Remove them from the unit using your tool kit like a flat screw driver. The brushes will be made of carbon usually a pair of them located on either side. Check both of them at once.
When the brushes are dirty, you can clean them with something like a pencil eraser. When there is more dust, you can use some air to be blown off to remove the dust. But if they are worn off or off shape, you should replace them.
To finish the work you started with, until you get a new one, you can make some alterations and adjust for the time being. Take a piece of sand paper and rub these brushes against them until their surface become smooth. After they get smoother, you can replace them back from where you removed. Now, check your grinder parts by powering your unit.
